Neptune Sample Coolers
What is a Hot Water Sample Cooler? A hot water sample cooler is commonly used on hot water, and steam industrial boilers. Water sampling of these systems are performed to monitor the boiler chemical
residuals.
What is the purpose of a Sample Cooler? The purpose of a sample cooler is to obtain a sample in a cooled state. Depending on your system, obtaining hot water samples may not be an accurate representation of the hot water inside the hot water boiler or steam boiler. For example, in steam boilers without the use of a sample cooler, pure steam flashes off from the sample. The sample obtained without a sample cooler
may provide false ph and sulfite residual readings when performing boiler water tests of your steam boiler chemical residuals.
How do you install a Hot Water Sample Cooler? Proper installation requires valves on sample inlet and cooling water inlet for hot water service. An additional valve must be installed on the sample outlet for all vapor or steam services to obtain required operating pressures in the coil. Proper installation in superheated steam service also requires precooling the sample to 750 F, the maximum design operating temperature of the sample cooler. Precooling can be accomplished by installing a pipe between the main steam header and the sample cooler to radiate excess heat.
