Increasing Glycol percentage from 30% to 40% Last Updated: 02/19/2024 |
||
I have a 30% glycol and 70% water in my system, how can I determine the freeze and or burst point ? Also, If I want to protect the system from bursting down to -20F and there is 400 gallons of water in the system outdoor wood boiler. Can you tell me how much I should order? First, you need to use a glycol refractometer to determine your freexe protection. For –20F you need a 40% solution of glycol in the system.
If you drain part of the system, you will dump 30% solution in order to fill the system with pure glycol.
Total glycol in the system:
So if you add 55 gallons of pure glycol, you should be really close to 40% solution.
So either order one drum of Propylene Glycol USP or corrosion inhibited glycol. Our corrosion inhibited glycol is a 95% solution or 53 gallons of pure glycol and 2 gallons of inhibitor. So you may want to purchase an additional pail.
