Frequently Asked Questions
- We’re removing the heat stain from hardened steel after it has been thread rolled at 900F. Since the steel is hardened (45-52 HRc), hydrogen embrittlement is a major concern. For that reason, we are trying to avoid acid baths that would increase that risk. What do you recommend?
- Our Chemworld Rust Citric is a VERY mild acid. This will work great in almost every case. Our recommendation would be to start with this product.
- Our client is trying to remove rust from M2(High Speed Steel) and M42 (Cobalt Steel) material. This material has been hardened to 60-62RC, hydrogen embrittlement is a major concern. What would you recommend?
- The ‘Rust Citric’ is an organic product and is the safest for those types of substrates.
- Will the Rust Citric work to clean up aluminum pits?
- It will clean up the aluminum pits, but it will not ‘replace’ or ‘fill’ the aluminum corrosion that caused the pit to begin with. That aluminum oxide (like iron rust) is unfortunately gone.
- I need a product that will clean the rust stains off of this tank it is stainless steel most of the stains are from steel flakes getting on it. Dipping is not an option due to size so just spray soak and rinse. Is the Rust Citric the best option?
- Yes Rust Citric is your best choice. You will have to put it in a garden sprayer, 100% BV, mist it on, then work it in with a brush. Because you can't dip it, muscle energy will have to work. You probably will have to go over it a few times to get perfectly clean.
- My pool liner is covered with rust stains and I've used sorbic acid and I've used vitamin C tablets to remove the rust stains but obviously when you're trying to clean a huge surface like that vitamin C isn't the best answer. Do you have a product for such a thing?
- If you saw positive results with Vitamin C then our Rust Citric will work great!
- We are looking for an acidic cleaner to remove inorganic deposits from zinc castings prior to remachining. What do you recommend?
- If you are dipping the parts then the Chemworld Rust Citric would be ideal. Run at 10% by Volume.
